If you have read up so far, thanks! It’s almost done 😉

Today was the last day of the hike. We had a good night sleep and to our surprise we were the last at breakfast (around 7:30). Most hikers probably wanted to get to the Kasseler hütte early due to the weather forecast of that day. Our path was different, we are going to meet up with Stef at Ginzling where we parked our car.

After eating breakfast in an empty dining room we commenced our hike downwards back to the crossing with the bridge. After greeting the goats at Greizer and saying hello to the cows near the bridge we were in new territory: the valley.

The views down and up the valley were amazing and the path was very easy (a bit boring actually after the mountain passes). On our way down we saw a lot of day hikers moving up to the Greizer Hütte or the other huts and restaurants along the road. We gradually went farther down into the valley and eventually came near the treeline. Sticks! Tom grabbed a stick and made it his walking stick. “Hmm this does help a lot actually”- he said while propelling himself forward. I had to try this as well, and I did feel a lot of difference being able to take some pressure off of my knee. Lesson learned.

After our lunch we continued downwards to our car and made our way to Mayrhofen. We went back to the Posthotel and chilled out for the remainder of the day.

Even though we didn’t end up at the Edel Hütte/Mayrhofen and had some physical hurdles, it was an amazing journey. The mountains are breathtaking, the people are nice and the trail was challenging but also rewarding. We learned a lot, and next time we will be better prepared.

Around that time my phone finally had more range and started pinging like crazy. I got a lot of messages from Stef, my girlfriend and family which I couldn’t receive the day before. Stef messaged that he was on his way to us. Around lunchtime, Tom and I came across a nice looking restaurant but we couldn’t pay with a card so we had to move on. We decided to stop on a nice spot next to the stream for lunch. Time for my espresso fix and something to eat. When we wanted to start cooking some water Stef was suddenly there holding 2 wooden (walking) sticks in his hands! Whoop whoop, the gang is complete again! Sticks and all. Together we walked down to the Naturparkhaus Ginzling.

On to the next!
