This is my first hiking-blog entry ever! I (David) wanted to do a hiking trip for a long time now and finally did it. Stef and Tom (two of my friends) and I set out to hike the Berlin high trail. During the hike I wrote out my days which felt great. Shortly after I came back I created this website (HikeFit) so I could share this- and future adventures with you. We did a part of the Berliner Höhenweg in 5 days. Throughout the story I also added in some practical stuff for if you ever want to go there as well. To quickly navigate through the days you can use the top-menu.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoy the story and find it helpful for your own adventure. 🙏

The start: Holland – Mayrhofen

Our trip to the Berliner Höhenweg (Berlin High Trail) started off with a drive from Holland and a one night stay at Posthotel Mayrhofen. Stef, Tom and I set out to hike a part of the Berliner. We were excited to get started and were also wondering how Mayrhofen and surrounding area looked during the summer as we have only been there in winter-times for snowboarding (and skiing).

We planned three ‘Hüttes’ ahead for our trip: FurtschaglhausAlpenrosehutte and the Greizer Hütte. We would see how everything goes day by day, and therefore we didn’t reserve spots for Kasseler and Edel Hüttes yet. Also, instead of Alpenrosehutte, most hikers go to the iconic Berliner Hütte. When we wanted to reserve they were fully booked. However, we got there anyway on day 3!

If you are a more experienced hiker, I’d recommend that you book everything in advance as it can be very busy. Due to Corona (July 2020…) it wasn’t. After checking in at the Posthotel we went out to look for food. After some nice burgers (and good service) at Goldkind, we went for some extra beers at the Scotland Yard pub. Cheers!

Practical stuff

  • Before you go into the mountains you should have enough cash with you.
    • We think it’s safe if you reserve about €60 – €70 per hut, per person. This would include dinner, one night stay and breakfast. Then you still have some money left for beers and snacks. You won’t be able to use a pin- or credit-card. Better safe than sorry!
  • Rooms/mattresses can be reserved online per hut. You can book your reservations on these websites:
  • The bookings go per hut. Or at least we couldn’t find an option to book it all together.
  • Please note, the Berliner Hütte is not on this list. You have to book separately with them per email or phone.
  • The full Berliner Höhenweg would also include the GamshütteFriesenberghaus and Olpererhütte.
  • You can get a free map of the mountain trails at the Naturparkhaus Ginzling
